Kenya eTA / Evisa requirements for Finnish citizens in 2025

The Kenyan authorities recently modified the admission criteria. Previously, you would have needed to apply for an e-visa before arriving. They have since replaced this with an ETA, which must still be requested for before entering the country.

This page explains the Kenya eTA requirements for Finnish citizens and how to apply for a eTA online.

1. Kenya eTA for Finnish citizens: Latest updates

You don’t need a Kenya Visa for the citizens of Finland to visit Kenya. You just need a Kenya ETA to enter and stay in the country for tourism purposes.

Kenya eTA is a semi-automated method for determining travelers' eligibility for travel to Kenya. The Government of the Republic of Kenya issues an electronic travel authorization (eTA). An eTA does not determine whether a person is permitted to enter Kenya. When travelers arrive, immigration officials will determine their admissibility.

This Kenya electronic visa, also known as the Kenya ETA is available for citizens of eligible countries to visit Kenya for tourism and leisure, business, visiting family and relatives, transit and even to enter the country for medical treatments.

Finnish citizens visiting Kenya are eligible to apply for an eTA for Kenya.

Finnish travelers traveling to Kenya on an eTA will also be able to use it immediately from the date of issue, and it will remain valid for 3 months from that date.

The Kenyan eTA is faster and easier to obtain than a traditional eTA because it can be obtained entirely online, eliminating the need to visit a Kenya embassy in Finland

Kenya eTA types for Finnish citizens:

You can choose from four types of E-Visas depending on how long you plan to stay in Kenya and whether you want to visit neighboring countries.

• Kenya transit e-visa: With our Transit e-Visa, travelers from Finland can spend up to as long as three full days in Kenya. It’s the ideal option for a short trip.
• Kenya tourist e-visa: If you intend to stay in Kenya for an extended period of time, consider applying for a Tourist e-Visa. With this e-Visa, you won't have to worry about your visa expiring too soon. After arriving in Kenya from Finland, you'll have 90 days to travel, visit loved ones, or create new memories in Kenya. It’s important to note that the Tourist e-Visa must be used within 90 days from the issued date.
• Kenya business e-visa: This visa is a single-entry visa that permits Finnish to stay in Kenya for up to 90 days. Finnish citizens can apply for a Kenya business e-visa if they are visiting Kenya to do business-related activities.
• Kenya East Africa visa: If you really want to see what East Africa has to offer, then this is your option. This e-visa gives you access to Uganda, Rwanda, and Kenya, so you’ll be sure to have a rich experience of the area. You can use this visa for multiple entries within 90 days from the date of issue, and it lets you stay there for up to 90 days each time.

Who must obtain the ETA?

All international travelers must get an ETA, with the exception of nationals of EAC member nations who desire to visit Kenya.

Before undertaking any journey, each individual must apply for an ETA. It is required to submit the application through the official government website. Applications submitted through third-party websites are immediately denied. For people under 18, the application must be completed by their legal guardian, parent, or accompanying adult.

2. Kenya eTA (previously the eVisa) requirements for Finnish citizens:

Finnish travelers are able to obtain a Kenya eTA online. However, the Kenya government has set a number of Kenya’s eTA requirements that Finnish citizens must meet to ensure a smooth eTA application process.

These Kenya eTA requirements for Finnish citizens include:

• Have a valid Finnish passport with at least two blank pages (to allow for stamps) and at least six months of validity from the date of entry.

• A scan of the information page of your passport: it’s important while completing the form at Kenya Immigration Services website

• A valid e-mail address: this is how you'll receive the eTA for Kenya and other important emails. As a result, you must provide a valid email address.

• Digital Photo – The applicant must provide a recent passport-size photo in either JPEG or PNG format. You should have taken the photo within the last six months against a white background.

• Proof of onward travel (for East Africa and Transit eTA): You need to provide all your tickets to verify the entry point and landing-leaving time.

• Travel plans shared. This may include submitting information about lodging, cities to be visited, and/or activities planned in the country.

• Business documents (for Business eTA): to get qualified, you need to provide an invitation letter from your company's partner in Kenya, a company COI, and your information card (staff ID/business card).

• Payment method — You can pay for your eTA by using PayPal, eTA, Mastercard, or American Express. To save time, have your preferred method of payment ready before you check out.

Applicants must ensure that their Finnish passport is valid for the duration of their trip to Kenya. Otherwise, they must renew their passport before proceeding with the application. Furthermore, dual nationals must travel to Kenya on the same passport they used to apply for the eTA.

Finally, each Finnish candidate must fill out a separate application form, even if they are traveling with minors, as a family, or in a group.

3. How to apply for a Kenya visa waiver from Finland:

Applying for a Kenya visa waiver from Finland is a simple process that begins with the applicant completing the online Kenya eTA application. Travelers will be required to enter some basic information into this application, such as:

• Full name

• Date of birth

• Gender

• Country of citizenship

• Passport number, issue, and expiry date

• Date of arrival in Kenya

Finnish travelers can request their Kenya eTA today in just 3 steps:

• Step 1: Fill out the Kenya online eTA form for Finnish citizens
• Step 2: Pay the Kenya eTA fees and submit the request
• Step 3: Download and Print out Kenya eTA

Before submitting the form for review, applicants should double-check the information they provide. Errors or missing data could cause processing delays.

Finnish travelers should keep in mind that they must apply for a Kenya eTA at least 7 days before their trip to Kenya in order to receive the eTA in time for their trip.

Each eligible traveler, regardless of whether they are traveling with family or in a group, will require their own Kenya eTA in order to enter the country

Kenya Evisa process for Finnish citizens:

Once the traveler has submitted their Kenya visa application, it may take up to three business days for the ETA application to be processed.

There may be additional delays in Kenya due to national holidays or similar situations; therefore, travelers should apply for their Kenya ETA well in advance of their intended trip.

After the application has been processed, travelers will be granted or denied an eTA and notified via email of the decision. If the traveler is approved, they will be emailed their eTA.

4. Kenya eTA (previously the eVisa) fees for Finnish citizens:

To process their Kenya eTA application, all Finnish citizens must pay a fee. Fees apply both online and at the embassy.

Because it eliminates the need for trips to the embassy, the Kenya eTA is a cost-effective option for Finnish citizens. The entire procedure is carried out online.

The cost of a Kenya eTA is determined by two factors: the processing time and eTA type.

The Kenya eTA fee for Finnish citizens is not high and consists of Government fees and service fee

• Kenya Government fee is the obligation fee for applicants who wish to apply for an eTA.

• Kenya service fees cover the cost of processing the application, as well as any additional information and assistance needed in completing the Kenya online eTA form.

As for the service fee, you have 3 options you can choose from:

• Normal: If you choose this option, your Kenya eTA will be delivered to you via email within 03 business days. This is the shortest processing time available among the options.

• Urgent: In comparison to the first option, this option will reduce the time it takes to process the application. Your application will be reviewed within 24 business hours.

• Super Urgent: This is the option for you if you have a pressing need to travel and need to be in Kenya as soon as possible. Your application will be reviewed and processed within 05 business hours. As you might expect, this is the most expensive option.
