Portuguese nationals traveling to Kenya on an eTA may stay for up to 90 days straight, with the option of extending the eTA for an additional 90 days while in the country.

The electronic travel authorization for Kenya can be used for visits for tourism, business activities, visiting friends and relatives, and medical treatment.

For Portuguese citizens who plan to move to Kenya to work or study in the country, the Kenya eTA is not sufficient. Instead, you must apply for a residence eTA and/or work eTA from a Kenya Embassy in Portugal .

If you’re traveling to Kenya from Portugal, you’ll be given the choice of four types of e-Visa

  • Kenya e-tourist visa: The Tourist e-Visa allows Portuguese visitors to stay in Kenya for 90 days from the date of arrival, there are plenty of opportunities to unwind without feeling rushed. You can use this time to take tours of famous landmarks, visit people you may know in the area, or simply relax and soak in Kenya's beauty.   • Kenya business e-visa: This visa allows a single entry and is valid for up to 90 days from the date of issue.   • Kenya transit e-visa: The Transit e-Visa is an excellent opportunity to spend a few days in Kenya during a lengthy layover. Travelers from Portugal can leave the airport and stay for up to 72 hours with this type of e-Visa.
  • East Africa E-Visa: This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to visit Africa. With the East African e-Visa, Portuguese travelers can also visit Rwanda and Uganda, making as many entries and exits between these countries during their 90-day Kenya trip.

2. Kenya eTA (previously the eVisa) requirements for Portuguese citizens

When beginning the application process for an electronic travel authorization (ETA), Portuguese nationals will be required to meet a series of documents and conditions, also known as Kenya eTA requirements for Portuguese citizens.

Before starting the application process, the Portuguese citizens must have the following:

  • A Portuguese passport that is valid for at least 6 months from the expected travel date and at least 02 blank pages for entry/ exit stamps.

  • An email address to which all notifications and confirmations, as well as the eTA, will be sent.

  • A recent photograph of the applicant, passport-style, meets the Kenya eTA photo requirements.

  • Confirmed flight and accommodation information.

  • Itinerary of their stay in Kenya.

  • To qualify for a Business visa, you must provide an invitation letter from your company's Kenyan partner, a company COI, and your information card (staff ID/business card).

The above-mentioned Portuguese documents and conditions are required for the Kenya eTA to be processed and approved.
