How to go to Karura forest?
Karura Forest, also known as The Karura Forest Reserve, is an urban forest on the outskirts of Nairobi. It is one of the last surviving indigenous forests in Nairobi, providing an important carbon sink for the city's industrial activities. Karura Forest is the largest of three primary designated forests in Nairobi, Kenya's capital, and is located in the city's north. Other woods in Nairobi include Ngong Forest and Oloolua Forest.
You can get to Karura Forest by private or public transport and when travelling by private transport you can use Limuru Road behind the Belgian Embassy, which is the main entrance to Karura Forest. There are two other entrances to the forest, the Old Kiambu Gate on Old Kiambu Road or the main KFS gate off Kiambu Road, opposite the CID headquarters.
You can hire a taxi from the city centre for about Kshs 1,000.
To access Karura Forest by public transport, Nairobi city centre offers public service vehicles 11B, 106, 107, 108, 114 or 116 which will take you directly to the main entrance on Limuru Road. If you intend to use the main KFS gate on Kimbu Road, a matatu will cost you about Kshs 100 or Kshs 120.
