Nyeri is a town located in the Central Highlands of Kenya. It is the district headquarters of Nyeri district. As one of the oldest towns in Kenya that adopted British colonial technology, Nyeri became an important administrative headquarters of the former Central Province of the United States. 

Following the dissolution of the previous provinces through the new constitution of Kenya on 26 August 2010, Nyeri town is now the largest municipality in the newly created Nyeri County. Among the notable Nyeri tourist attractions are the mausoleum of its founder Lord Baden Powell, founder of the Scout movement, and the hometown of the late Nobel laureate Wangari Maathai. 

Nyeri's Roman Catholic Cathedral is also home to the mausoleum of Blessed Irene Stefani "Nyaatha," who was beatified on 23 May 2015 in Nyeri. Half of her remains are preserved in the Cathedral and the other half are preserved in Gikondi. 6. Italian War Memorial Church

The Italian War Memorial Church, is one of the top attractions in Nyeri is located in Mathari and is the most famous church in Kenya. It was erected in 1952, and its outstanding architectural design is still in good condition. It serves as a last resting place for 676 Italian troops who perished during World War 2. The bones of the African troops who fought with them are kept in a separate edifice a few meters from the chapel. The church opens for mass once a year on the first Sunday of November to honor the dead warriors.

7. Nyeri Hill 

The locals refer to Nyeri hill as "Githuuri". "Githuuri" is the Kikuyu term for a hill. The hill is located in the Mathari neighborhood and is visible from many sections of Nyeri due to its height. The hill's summit provides spectacular views of Mount Kenya's major peaks.

Mathari is a unique place in Nyeri County. It was one of the areas where Italian missionaries resided after arriving in East Africa.

It is reported that the first missionary obtained the large territory from a local leader in exchange for a blanket. He eventually hired people as laborers for his coffee and tea estates, offering them dwellings in return.
